            ABOUT THE ARTIST
Paul Ward has been a professional photographer for over twenty years now and recently won his category at the British Photography Awards 2020. Over the years his work has been published in many books and magazines both in the UK and internationally and his architectural images currently adorn the walls aboard Cunard’s flagship Queen Mary 2. Paul’s passion for cars started when he bought his first Austin Mini almost 30 years ago and ever since then he has been obsessed with both classic cars and modern supercars, so, as an image-maker, it’s not surprising that automobile photography has become a passion of his too.

            ABOUT THIS COMMISSION
This is a digitally-drawn recreation of a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO, inspired by Stirling Moss' example; Chassis Number 3505GT.

After racing Ferrari’s prototype 250 GT Sperimentale, Moss wanted Ferrari’s newest GT racer for the upcoming 24 Hours of Le Mans. Moss ended up with a 1962 Ferrari 250 GTO (S/N 3505GT) new from the factory that was painted a pale green to go with one of Moss’ sponsors at the time. When Moss took delivery, he immediately had the car sent to Goodwood Circuit for the Easter races that year where he took the car out for a short practice, but did not fully race the car at speed. Unfortunately, Moss would end up crashing his Lotus Formula car that weekend that left him critically injured and caused him to call his racing career to an end.

Moss’ 250 GTO would famously go on to become the most expensive car ever sold in 2012 for a reported sale cost of $35 million. While Moss never actually ended up racing the car (a career-ending crash in April of 1962 prevented him from getting behind the wheel), it has a fairly significant race history with several wins. 3505GT also competed in the 1962 24 Hours of Le Mans, although it ended the race with a DNF. The car stands out among the other 250 GTOs thanks to its unique lime-green livery.
