ABOUT THIS COMMISSION
The Ferrari F40 is a legendary supercar that was produced from 1987 to 1992. It was the last car personally approved by Enzo Ferrari, the founder of the company, before his death in 1988. The F40 was designed as a celebration of Ferrari's 40th anniversary and was intended to be the ultimate expression of a road-going supercar.
The F40's design, created by Pininfarina, is characterised by its aggressive and aerodynamic styling. It features a low, wedge-shaped body with sharp lines and distinctive rear wing supports. The body panels were made of lightweight composite materials, including carbon fibre, Kevlar, and aluminium, to keep the weight as low as possible.
The heart of the F40 is its mid-mounted 2.9-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine. It produced around 471 bhp and 426 lb-ft. The engine was mated to a five-speed manual transmission, sending power to the rear wheels. The F40 was incredibly fast, with a 0-60 mph time of 3.8 seconds and a top speed of around 201 mph. Its lightweight construction and aerodynamic design contributed to its exceptional performance and handling capabilities.
To keep the weight down, the F40 had minimal creature comforts. It featured lightweight racing seats, no carpets, and no power steering or electronic aids. Air conditioning and a sound system were optional extras. The focus was on delivering a pure driving experience without unnecessary frills. Legacy: The Ferrari F40 has achieved legendary status in the automotive world. It was a technological marvel of its time and represented the pinnacle of performance and engineering for road cars. Its racing-inspired design and blistering performance captivated enthusiasts and collectors alike. The F40's exclusivity, limited production numbers and association with the iconic Ferrari brand have made it highly coveted, and it continues to be one of the most sought-after and valuable classic hypercars today.
